Soon to get my first ever Kilt, suggestions on how to mix up the looks?
Hi all new to the forum, so I'll start by saying I'm pleased to be here!
So as a quick note, I'll soon be buying my first ever Kilt being part of Clan Dhonnachaidh, Ill be opting for the Modern Hunting Robertson (I was thinking between that and the ancient but I think to start it'll be the modern). When I do get it I plan to start by getting a Braemar Grey tweed jacket and waist coat to go with it (at a later date ill get a dress jacket when an occasion requires it). I just wanted to ask from a humble perspective, further ways you would all go about mixing this up for different occasions in the future. Dr eaxmple other tweed jackets to go with this tartan? what different colours Hose (and what goes with them).... I ask because most people Just hire kilts, and when I have my own I look forward to styling it!
And please bare in mid this is all to match the Dark blues and greens of the Modern Hunting Robertson...
Look forward to your suggestions!

Hose, Ties and Waistcoats. Can be quite cheap individually, but can change a look in seconds.
At least on pair of good quality hose, but lots of middle cost hose in a variety of colours - complimenting and contrasting.
Different ties for different occasions. Solids, stripes and if you can find them woollen and knitted.
Waistcoats can be bought from charity shops (often for small change). An investment of 5 buttons and the time it takes to sew them on and you have a unique garment for little cost.
Garters/flashes again in contrasting or complimenting colours.
Pocket square - a bold splash of colour.
A fresh flower in your buttonhole - wear one and people will comment.
And before I forget, welcome to XMarks.

Read, look at the pictures and ask questions-----no question is stupid if you don't know the answer------read some more. look at pictures and understand what you are looking at(beware, some pictures are far from helpfull) ask more questions. Keep doing it until you understand exactly what you want---------and then spend your money.

Chas and Jock have excellent advice. For some visuals, take a look at 1 Kilt 10 Looks : A Visual Guide to Formality in Highland Attire
There is much discussion on hose color, but remember that you are not matching the kilt, but complementing your outfit.

What Chas and Jock said. My wife is descended from the Robertsons of Struan and her ancestors hail from Strathtay, Perth and Kinross (near Dunkeld). She is a proud member of Clann Dhònnchaidh.
Welcome to the forum, mate!
Cheers,

Welcome to XMarks from just south of Albany NY. Tattersall shirts with regimental ties look great with tweed kilt jackets (and waistcoats). Cheers! Frank
