    Men inTights, Wearing a kilt

Looks like it could be running tights?
So I have been asked recently (and frequently) why I hadn't been wearing my kilts. Winters here in Utah and where I work in Wyoming, Colorado and Idaho are brutal. One chap suggested wearing tights. I expressed my reservation concerning the appropriateness of a man in a kilt wearing tights. His reply was "if you have the guts to wear a skirt you ought to have the guts to wear tights. I looked at men's running tights, Ouch, $80.00. My wife suggested Girls leggings, $8.00 at WalMart. Other than the expensive running tights like Under Armor or long johns they really do not make anything equivalent for men. I would rather NOT discuss the appropriateness of wearing NOTHING under the kilt, that subject has been beat to death many times. My question for the rabble is do you have the Guts to wear tights under your kilt?

I can not speak as to how correct etc. this is, but my g-g-g-grandfather wore long underwear under his kilt and hose in the late 1800s here in Wisconsin. We are also known to have cold winters.

I'll wear tights when running or cycling in the cold or under ski pants when skiing or snowboarding, but that's the limit for me. I just couldn't handle the look of tights with a kilt, personally. The wool kilt and hose have been enough to keep me contentedly warm down to the coldest weather in which I've worn a kilt (~30 F).

George IV is said to have worn pink tights under his kilt in his (in)famous 1822 Edinburgh visit. So you'd be in royal company, for whatever it's worth.

Tights no not for me, that brings up images of George IV and his pink tights. I have worn boxer briefs under the kilt especially in the Canadian winters. Another thought though is a military kilt, 22 oz wool sure does help.

In the past (my father's generation) many kilt makers provided their civilian clients with a pair of shorts in matching tartan to wear under the kilt.

As Glen has said the 22 oz. military kilts really keep you warm.

I also have been known to wear thermals under my kilt when the weather dictates.

The look of tights under a kilt would remind me of unfortunate scenes like when Snoop Dogg wore one with black leggings (or maybe just kilt hose pulled all the way up with no turnover).

OK, don't laugh guys. But consider pantyhose. And I'll begin with a disclaimer that I've never worn pantyhose (hey, it never gets that cold here in Texas). But my father, who was in the Rangers, told me that those guys did it all the time when it was REALLY cold. Pantyhose may be thin, but they hold warmth fairly well because they are skin-tight. Of course, those Rangers were wearing them under BDU trousers, but it could work with a kilt without any visual difference to casual observers.

Obviously, one would want to be careful what crowd one hangs out with when doing such. A man in a 'skirt' AND wearing pantyhose might just be too much for some people.
