Cool Orion Nebula tartan now a reality

In order to complete the registration with the Scottish Tartan Autority I contacted a local weaver to make me a piece of cloth.
I'm pretty proud how bright the colors appear and match the original object we can observe in winter sky.

    Enjoy !!!

Nice, Pierre. Are you an amateur astronomer, as am I? I'd love to hear the story behind this tartan.

    Nice looking tartan.
I'd be interested in hearing the story behind it, as well.

Yes I am an amateur astronomer. I like to chase total solar eclipses kilted of course !!!

The colors reflect the ones we observe on M42.

    Scarlet : Hydrogen H-alpha line
Yellow : Stars composing the Trapezium
    Blue : M43 observed next to M42
Green : Secondary colors observed in the nebula
Magenta : General color of the nebula

That's awesome, Pierre. I like to chase down deep sky objects by star hopping - no electronics involved. I doubt I'll wear my kilt for observing because when it's not too cold, there are too many insects. But I do plan to wear it for outreach events, demos, and such. You've inspired me. Gonna do some research into tartan design and I might just come up with Pleiades tartan.
