    female doublet

This doublet struck me as strange, firstly, because of the single flap in the back.

Then I noticed it buttoned the 'wrong' way!

Having the musicians' trade badge, I'm supposing that this is a No1 Dress doublet for a female musician of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. I've not yet seen a female piper in the RRS, but it wouldn't surprise me. Of course a piper's doublet would have a different trade badge.

I think it's the first time I've seen a purpose-made female doublet, that is, one that buttons the other way.

Here's the photo from the listing. Note the extra seams in front.

Well, there are a couple of other indicators that it's feminine . . . .

    Nice doublet.

Yes indeed, in that photo it seems obvious, but I've seen many times over the years, on Ebay, ordinary male doublets displayed on female mannequins.

You might be right there! Yes the traditional doublets had double flaps

but the new ones, which replaced the Archer Green coatees (when? in the 1970s?) evidently changed to a single flap.

I don't think the photo on the Ebay listing is reversed. You saw such reversals all the time when people used negatives (it could even be done on accident), but now with the point-and-shoot digital cameras one would have to take the extra step to reverse, and nowadays I rarely see it.

I believe that the musician badge is worn on the right arm. The badge is shown on the right arm of the doublet in the photo which would seem to indicate that the photo is NOT reversed and is, in fact, a specifically made females doublet.
