    Next wool kilt

The time has come to consider my second wool kilt. I purchased a 5 yard wool from USAkilts in Weathered Douglas 16 oz Lochcarron wool , I absolutely love it . But this time I want something a little more colorful. These are the Tartans I'm considering.

I really like the Monaghan County, mainly for an autumn feel to it.

I really love Isle of Skye. It is a beautiful tartan that makes so much sense when you are actually on Skye...the colors are there in the hillsides. It is really versatile too, so you can wear it with a lot of colors too. So that gets my vote of the above.

That said, I really like the Donegal and the Monaghan tartans too. For different reasons. I have been partial to blue tartans of late and I like the color progression of the background colors from blue to green in this tartan. The Monaghan does have a nice autumnal feel to it, so I like it, but may not lend itself well to year round wear for the same reason.

I don't think you'd go wrong with any of these choices.

Isle of Skye has been done to death. Will possibly look like a pipe band issue....or a rental.....

Have to say that I like Donegal County and I note that another forumite has already posted a pic of a kilt in that tartan:-

Monaghan County looks more like a tweed or the sort of thing a woman's scarf or the lining of a trench coat would be made from.

Red Fraser.....why in modern colours? What about muted?

As much as I love IoS, Ron Abbott is right that it's starting to be a bit 'done'.

If you have ties to Monaghan County I'd do that, next would be Fraser, assuming you have family ties there.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. There's no denying it is a very attractive tartan. Arguably, entirely more attractive and colourful than the others presented. Maybe not as bright, which can be overpowering at times; but in its subdued, gentle colour scheme, the Isle of Skye tartan is both vibrant as it is rich.

Rich: My vote was based solely on the color (the only criterion you mentioned) in the "pictures" in your OP. Thus, IOS - best overall, Donegal - most colorful, Monaghan - most subdued, Fraser - brightest. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.
