looking to buy my first kilt help
I am getting married soon. I have never had a kilt. Always promised my mother I would get married in a kilt. I am 47 and this is my first wedding. So she has waited a long time. Any help I would appreciated. Confused about regimental and stripes. 6 ft 2 285 looking a Mackinnon modern red. Also I live in Florida so it is hot most of the time.

It is important to choose your kiltmaker first - s/he will help you with selection of materials, tartan, measuring you, advising you, accessories, etc. etc. etc. S/he will also order the material and make up the kilt.
The advertisers on this forum are the very best, and with the razor-thin profit margins that they offer (some even with discounts for members of this forum) you're basically getting your kilt somewhere between wholesale and full price - often closer to the lower end of that scale. XMarks stands by our advertisers because they stand by their customers!
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, and be forewarned that since a kilt is an individually-manufactured item, to keep your Mom happy, and to keep your promise, make your kilt arrangements soon! It takes time to produce such a unique and personal garment. When's the wedding, and who's the wonderful girl?
I am sure that others will chime in with their personal recommendations too from among our advertisers. Some are faster than others, so consider delivery time.
All best, and glad to have you aboard!

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
Since it's hot where you live, you might want to get a kilt in medium weight.
Or... you could get a 6 yard kilt.
Or... you could get a box pleated kilt that is 4 - 5 yards.
All of us kiltmakers on the forum would be happy to help you in any way that we can.

Depending on the tartan you want, the fabric weight, and the particular kilt maker you choose, a kilt could take anywhere from just a few days with an in-stock tartan for a machine-sewn kilt, to many months for a custom-order wool weave that is then hand-sewn.

You beat me to it. That is what I was going to say.
Some of the kiltmakers on here might be better at saying how far out you need to order your kilt. Some of the advertisers on here ask you to order your kilt a good 12 weeks before you need it. Unless you happen to find an off the rack kilt in your tartan and your size. Rocky from USA kilts, on the other hand seems to be able to have it in your hands before you actually order it. Or so the rabble sings his praise.
At any rate

MacKinnon is available in P/V (polyester/viscose...polyester and a type of rayon blend). That being said, and especially if you're needing something fairly quick, I say go for a USA Kilts Semi-Traditional in MacKinnon. Regular turnaround time for a Semi-Traditional is 6-10 weeks, but USA Kilts also offers a rush order option which will have your kilt shipped out in 2 weeks maximum. Also, the Semi-Traditional kilts are extremely nice garments.

I second the notion of getting a USA Kilts Semi-Trad. Great looking kilt at a great price and exceptionally fast service!
