    Kilt yardage question

I've recently met someone who says he has a 25 yard kilt. I've never heard of one with so much yardage, does anyone else have one?

I think this is a case of someone disseminating incorrect information.

Perhaps 25 feet! Does he know his feet from his yards?

This is very likely the case. 25 feet would be 8 1/3 yards, roughly in line with a 8 yard kilt.

Either that or it's a kilt for his hot-air balloon.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I'm trying to imagine what a 25 yard kilt would be like to wear. OMG. The pleats would have, what, 18 or more inches of fabric for an average sized guy? Think about what a monster of a kilt that would be. I bet it'd be mighty warm in the winter though.

a 25 yard kilt. hmmmm, let's do some math. figure 16oz per DW yard for such a "tank" means a nearly 12 pound kilt, maybe a bit less with cutouts and such lost in construction. With belt and sporran that is still like wearing more than two gallons of milk strapped around one's waste. With my body habitus that "kilt" would be ankle wear and my bum would be less than optimally covered.
Even at 13oz you are talking about around an 8-9 pound kilt, 10oz around 7-8 pounds, still at least twice if not three times the weight of any of my kilts, most of which are 8yd 16oz "tanks".
Maybe for a sumo wrestler in his "family" tartan.
