Do any of you civil war re-enactors ever wear your roundabout or depot type jackets with your kilt ?I

I was a civil war re-enactor (American Civil War, that is) for several years a few decades ago. But I guess old age has fogged my brain and I do not recognize "roundabout" or "depot type" jackets. Photo, please, to get the synaptic juices flowing.

AKA "shell jacket".
I think my richmond type II looks a little "costumish" to wear with a kilt, but that may just just me.

D'oh!!! (slaps palm to forehead). Shell jacket! Yes, I have seen them worn with kilts at re-enactments. We had a NY Highland Company in our group. Looked quite sharp. Of course they were Yankee jackets. BTW, I have Chambers in my family tree, cousin (?).

right. my confed jacket is a butternut columbus depot, looks terrible with kilt. but the federal blue goes great with my tartan, maclaren.

I had considered a civil war jacket as a possible outfit. Gray jacket / kilt as I am a southerner. I also considered a white highland type shirt with a gray vest. Proper boots would be a little tougher to match up. I was thinking maybe gray reniscance boots.

I'm sorry to be the voice of dissent here, but I've seen Civil War reenactors combine kilts with uniform jackets and frankly find the look a bit ridiculous. I do a number of living history presentations on Civil War era Cavalry and always strive for absolute authenticity in my uniforms and equipment. I can't imagine the "look" that someone is trying to achieve by combining Civil War clothing and kilts as what you end up with is neither authentic to the Civil War or anything close to traditional Highland dress.
Perhaps as a costume for a comic-con type event or maybe a renaissance fair, a Civil War type shell jacket could be paired with a kilt but in my humble opinion the end result would clearly be a costume.
Just my $.02 worth. Your mileage may vary and no disrespect is intended

I have no records nor photos to back up this statement but the Quakers of NC hired German Dragoons to fight in our stead during many conflicts. The bellowing "breeches" of those troops easily handled the "wire briars, black and honey locust tree thorns as well as every green plant that will cut a woodsman legs to shreds. I've heard that kilts were worn with leather spats when tromping untamed country.

Hello to my brother in Oxford! I am from Natchez.
Also remember that many MANY confederates had no uniform at all, or only pieces they had found along the way. Many were even bare foot. So there is no reason to think some of them couldn't have issue tops with kilts. Having taken a coat or shirt from a fallen friend in the field.
