Cold Kneys
I don't know about you lot but its bloody cold around the kneys. This is my first winter in a kilt and some of my days out have been a real eye opener to the cold breeze LOL

Norbo,
That is exactly why I have not worn my kilt lately. Wind chills of 25 degrees below zero make me a wimp. I do not need frostbite anywhere on my body that I would have to explain only to my doctor.
Good luck on staying warm.

Rebel,
Maybe we can get together some time when the weather warms up.

My solution in the very cold weather is to wear a calf length coat.

I've had some luck keeping out the cold by taking an inexpensive, but warm pair of wool socks, cutting off the feet, stretching it out overnight to make it wider, then wearing them as a sort of upper-thigh-warmers. It doesn't help my knees per-se, those were still uncovered, but it did help keep my upper legs warm.
Agreed though, once a breeze kicks in when it's really cold, it can be eye-opening, to say the least!
Cheers!

When I'm sitting in my home office, my knees get colder if I'm in my long quite thick cotton cycling trousers than when I'm wearing my kilt and hose and outside he same is true if I just walking around. I think the heat resulting from the warm socks and layers of kilt material compensate for the exposed knees. The same is true for any other pairs of trousers. When I was working and had to wear trousers, there was always a pair of long johns underneath for warmth in the winter months, even indoors. (We don't have our heating on high.) The long johns are not required with a kilt, even my cheap acrylic ones.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Norbo, I hope it warms up a bit for you.. Luckily New Jersey has not been as bad as it can be for winter, I so don't like the cold, but its a price to pay for the Tri state area..I wear my kilts often, but I'm a girl and I can get away with wearing Fleece lined leggings ( stockings) with boots etc.. when not so cold I can wear normal tights/hose and socks.Warm days over the knee socks that I fold down to under my knees w lower boots.. hot weather sandles.. Can't men wear something to cover your legs more ? I've never seen men wear anything but the hose / socks with shoes but is there anything else for men ? ....Stay warm.. .. Angie

Angie,
Unfortunately, the only thing I can wear to keep me warm in winter, in Indiana it can get mighty cold just like New Jersey, is thermal underwear. But that does not look good with kilts.
Stay warm!
