Looking for a Military Weight Tartan

    Hiyas,

I really hope that someone´s out there who can tell me where I can buy a nice military weight tartan. I´m after the Erskine, or alternatively the Robertson.

    Many thanks!!!

    Yours Aye

House of Edgar offers a small choice of regimemtal weight fabrics.
As I understand all tartans that are origimally worn by regiments.

Do you mean modern military weight, in which case HoE, or do you mean of a dfferent era?

I got the heavy MOD style Royal Stewart from House Of Edgar and it has the exact appearance of what's currently worn by a number of the regimental Pipes & Drums.

There are three things which distinguish it 1) the weight 2) the surface (slightly fuzzy like a travel rug) and 3) the very large sett size.

BTW at least in The Queens Own Highlanders the Pipe Major and Drum Major wear cloth which appears to be like ordinary civilian tartan, while the rest of the Pipes & Drums wear the heavy fuzzy stuff.

Forgot to tell you one thing, I would need the fabric to make a Jacobite era jacket. I already have one, but unfortunately my belly thought it would be nice to expand, so I need another jacket. My old jacket is made from the Erskine tartan in 18/19 oz military weight. Would be great to find a length of that lovely tartan.

Why not try to find a fabric that approximates what was available in that era? My understanding is that the current MOD fabrics/colors/setts are not appropriate for the Jacobite period.

Absolutely right. The shades of the current cloth, not to mention its finish, is nothing like Jacobite era cloth.

Sure! I would love to purchase tartan fabric which has the same quality and feel as the tartan fabric of the Jacobite era. Two questions. Where to find? Who can afford it? And I think I can"t afford another special weave tartan.

I bought the fabric for my Erskine jacket from Steve McVeigh, he used to sell wonderful top quality items.

Any idea where in Scotland I can find the Erskine tartan in military weight? I will visit friends next year, would be nice to go shopping with them in a tartan mill.
