    help in finding a Dirk

I have been searching for a Dirk that is in the style of those of the 18th century - I was advised by a very nice Scottish fellow at Grandfather Mountain Scottish Games to seek out a antique one since the value will only go up. Those prices are out of my budget and I was hoping that someone here could give me some direction.
    Thanks

Being a Scot I cannot help but think in the long term and in consequence, I wholeheartedly agree with the advice that you were given.

Take your time, do your research and save that hard earned and scarce commodity, cash and then in due course buy the pukka job. Anything else will just be an amalgamation of modern components and whilst it may be good to look at and possibly well made, it is unlikely to be worth anymore than what you paid for it and more probably less. Not therefore, in my humble opinion, a wise use of one's hard earned loot.

There is a nice set here: http://www.sharppointythings.com/antiques.html#dirkset

I have done a fair amount of business with Mr Williamson of SharpPointyThings, and always been satisfied.

I'm sure Jock Scot's advice is sage, but if you really can't afford the real thing, I'll second the recommendation of Scotia Metalwork.

Mike McRae recently completed one like this for me, and I was very pleased with the result. Total for the dirk, sheath and shipping: $375. (Hand carved ebony, brass and 5160 tool steel).

I appreciate your advice and will take it. I am in no hurry and need to research some more - thanks
