Question MacGregor and Cameron of Erracht Tartans, do I wear?

I'm relatively new to tartan kilts. I've been wearing a Khaki 5.11 Tactical Kilt for awhile now, however during a re-enactment event recently I spotted a MacGregor red and green Kilt, near perfect fit, 100% wool, 8 yard heavyweight for £40... naturally i bought it and I love it, although I have not worn it out yet. same with my vintage ex-millitary Cameron of Erracht kilt, once again perfect fit. But do I and should I wear them out as I'm English with no Scottish in me and one of them is a clan tartan and the other a regimental one?

I like both tartans and would love to wear them, but I thought I'd get the opinions of the fine kilt wearers of X Marks

Well, speaking ONLY for myself, you're welcome to wear any of the Cameron tartans and I believe (but cannot prove) that the Lochiel (clan Chief) has said the same in the past. It is in no way a restricted tartan and has a proud history. Most Camerons will be proud to see you in it! (If they recognize it...it's not the most common Cameron tartan.)

I ask only a few things of any kilt wearer:
-- Wear it like you mean it!
-- Know something about it! (The clan name will do, and possibly who made your kilt or a bit of its origins.)
-- Be ready to answer "So you're not Scottish, why are you wearing a kilt?" ("I like it" is a perfectly good reason.)

    Go. Do it. Enjoy!

    Peace

I have a lovely kilt in Cameron of Erracht in the weathered colour palette that I wear with great pleasure. I do so in the knowledge that the Lochiel has given his universal welcome that anyone may wear it.

I wear McGregor tartan due to my clan being a sept of it (I know there are several branches of the Fletchers in Scotland but all available evidence points to my origins being of the McGregor Fletchers). That and it's fairly common compared to the standard Fletcher tartans. And looks good too. Wear with pride, my fellow Englishman.

This is interesting. Can anyone expand on this bit?
