Cold weather redux

Not sure this is where this goes, but couldn't see anywhere else it should so I'll leave it to the mods.

I froze my. . . thighs (thought I was gonna say something else, didn't cha?) off in Moab watching the music when it was 30* something wearing my utility kilt so I've been searching 'round for a solution. First I tried, in the spirit of the leine, a t-shirt style nightshirt under but that didn't seem to help. Yesterday and today I wore two pair of the Duluth Trading 'free range' cotton boxer briefs under and it worked well. Took a hike, maybe 1/3 mile up and over the back 40 (actually about the back 5) just now, it's 24* out and I was fine.

Full attire included long sleeve t-shirt, flannel shirt, fleece jacket, tweed 8-piece flatcap, kilt, 2x boxer briefs, Cabela's wader socks, hiking boots and of course, Wayfarer sunglasses.

Still waiting on my UT wool kilt, I suspect it will be warmer than the canvas.

Hi ! I was gonna suggest biker shorts or get thermals and cut them into shorts.... I know its easier for a girl to cover her legs.. I wear fleece leggings in the winter time.. Good luck.. Angie

I'm thinking, for me anyway, problem solved. Does multiply boxer brief laundry by two though.

When you sit down that kilt "heat trap" dumps. When standing and walking you will be fine barring high winds.
I do use heavier fabric and longer ( just below the knee cap ) kilts in the winter here as there is always some breeze from the mountain pass I live below. Is long as I am moving around and dress warm on top, all is good.

I wear wool kilt in winter, heavy wool hose, I come equipped with enough fur on my legs to keep most parts warm enough, but the naughty bits get cold when there is a good breeze blowing....

I'd suggest tights but as you're a bloke I don't think you'd enjoy it...

What about Under Armour leggings? I've heard they're pretty good at keeping the warmth in.

I have been using a mixture of tall boots (mid-calf to knee-high Linesman), merino wool socks, Underarmour Boxerjocks (http://www.amazon.com/Under-Armour-B...our+boxerjocks )for most of the cold that is descending on western Massachusetts. When I'm outside for a longer time, I swap out the Boxerjocks for a pair of Ibex wool leggings (http://www.amazon.com/Ibex-Woolies-B...x+men+leggings). So far, so good.

I also recently purchased a pair of SUPER tall socks from Utilikilts. Haven't used them yet though.

I did a late night run to the shops, and decided to put on my coat as it is cold here, in the last few hours of the year.

Recently I've put on a coat only because it was raining.

Indoors it is still tee shirt order, though with wool kilts and hose.

Difficult to get anything dry with so much rain and high temperatures so the central heating isn't turning on, so no warm radiators.
