Kilt jackets & ebay

I would like to add a Harris tweed jacket and vest to my kilted attire but at 6'6" and 265 pounds I am hesitant to order online without being fitted.
eBay is not a viable choice for me for 50 L jackets.
Any suggestions/ vendors?

Mark , I think most of the vendors that advertise at the top of this page can probably help you out with either a 50 L or a measured / fitted jacket . Most of them provide a diagram that explains the measurements they need in case you decide to have a custom made ( bespoke ) jacket and they are always just a phone call away if you need assistance .

I'm right up with you, almost: 6'4" 240.

All of my jackets are used ones from Ebay, high quality Scottish-made items got for around $100 each. They're a Lovat tweed Argyll, a black Argyll, and a black Prince Charlie.

They're all the size that's called 50 over there, which probably is around a 48 here, and they all fit fine.

You might need a British 52? which is even more scarce than 50, which is scarce enough! I see hundreds of lovely kilt jackets in 38 and 40 for every one in 50. Actually there was a 52 up on Ebay just last week, a rarity. Too big for me, probably, and I passed on it.

If you're talking the new Harris Tweed jackets that Tartan4Less AKA Kilts4Less sells on Ebay, those are usually available up to 52. You should check, but I think they will work with you about getting the right size. They're good people to work with but to me their kilt jackets often have an odd "cut" to them. Note that the pocket flaps and slash cuffs are placed oddly high, the lapels are wide, and the cut in the front boxy. Though the fabric in genuine Harris Tweed, note that they never say where the jackets are made:

Since you're here in the USA I would myself probably go with USA Kilts, who have a great selection of jackets. You're probably much more assured of getting the right fit, there.

All I ever seem to see is Mass-Market Pakistani "$70" princ Charlie's and black baretha argylls..

Same for kilts... I see tons of skirts and Pakistani budget kilts.. The ex=hire wool or vintage kilt are hard to come by on the US Ebay site.

At the moment there are a number of lovely vintage tweed kilt jackets on Ebay well under $100, but none in your size. I see for example two in 39 and two in 46.

Jackets in 46 don't come up often, so the present thing is kind of a rarity. Jackets in 42 come up fairly often.

If I were to rank how often different sizes come up (in fine vintage tweed kilt jackets) it would probably be childs/youths first, then sizes like 36 to 39. These are to be seen practically every day.

Then commonness descends as the sizes get bigger: 40, then 42, and so it goes.

48, 50, and larger might come up only once a year. Yet I was able to fully outfit myself with size 50 jackets.

About parameters, for myself it's simple: "kilt jacket 50" (worldwide, used) and I get emails whenever one is listed. I get emailed only once or twice a year at best. You need to click "worldwide" to get the UK stuff. Most UK sellers list on the US site too. If you go to Ebay.co.uk you'll see many of the same things. There are many more kilt-related things on the UK site of course, it's worthwhile to look there too, but beware that many of the Ebay UK sellers that don't list on Ebay US site don't ship to the US.

One tricky thing about Ebay parameters is that if you don't search under "used" you'll get flooded with the Pakistani stuff, but if you do search "used" you will miss out on used items which the seller is incorrectly selling as "new" which happens all the time. One way to combat that is to search all (new and used) but search by "lowest price first" usually resulting in all the used/vintage stuff showing up at the top.
