    Kilts 4 Less

Has anyone had experience with Kilts 4 Less? Heard any rummors or comments on their service? I'm interested in buying a kilt in Dalrymple of Castelton No.2, just because I want to compare their version of the tartan with that I had woven by MM, and the price is right.

I've had sterling service from them, and purchased a number of items as a result.

It strikes me as a fair business, offering value for money. I visited their store and found the sizing of their value kilts a bit idiosyncratic and was not able to buy one day. I would visit again but would check their terms for returning goods.

If all you want is to compare fabrics why not ask them for a swatch? Or ask them which mill provides their fabric.
Any reputable shop will be happy to provide both.

I purchased a kilt from them 2 years ago . This is not something I would normally do as I own 3 kilts that are bespoke . However , I thought I would give it a try .

The kilt that was advertised was supposed to be an 8 yd kilt in " Isle of Skye " tartan ( off the peg , not bespoke ) . I understood that it wouldn't be anywhere close to a bespoke kilt in measurements and fit .

The kilt that I received did not reflect their advertisement . It was a 5 yd kilt , the fabric was wool , probably about a 13 oz , no selvadge at the bottom as it was turned up and hemmed . The tartan itself was not correctly " Isle of Skye " but rather " Isle of Skye-ish " .

They agreed to accept the return of the kilt without any fuss .

At that time , I very politely informed them that they may want to re-word their description of the that particular kilt in their advertisement . ( which they haven't done )

Their response was " we just say whatever our kiltmakers tells us " .

They probably offer some decent jackets and accessories , just be cautious of the advertisement of their kilts .

    Cheers , Mike

Typed in the name of the tartan on their site and got this message:

Sorry we can't locate your tartan but we definitely can supply. Please call 01475 723 67 for a quote.

So, they are buying it in from somewhere, there aren't many sources for a special weave so it would be interesting to see what they have to offer. I'd be suprised if they can supply a sample.

Here's a waistcoat from them offered on Ebay.

You can see that the two front panels are made from two different fabrics, one seems to be close to real Isle Of Skye, the other is an altered knockoff of Isle Of Skye.

It's obvious to me that this is not actual UK-woven tartan. Incredible that they would be so slipshod as to not even notice they'd used mismatching tartans. Also note that one pocket welt is on the bias while the other is not.

I made the mistake of buying one of their supposed "ex-hire" kilts in Spirit Of Scotland tartan. The kilt is obviously a product of Pakistan or India. The fabric was listed as 13oz wool but has that odd thin insubstantial feel of Pakistani PV.
