    Best of luck.
Be sure to post a report afterwards.
I'm a bit out of touch with the heavy athletics circuit since I have been out of highland games organising for a few years now.
Indeed last week at Cumnock games the only people I recognised at the heavies were the referee Alan Pettigrew and contestant Neil Elliot.
Regional Director for Scotland for Clan Cunningham International, and a Scottish Armiger.

I'll be at Braemar too. Judging from pictures I've seen of recent games, I guess I'll be one of the few spectators wearing a kilt. I'll also be carrying a camera bag. Last time I was at Braemar, 50 plus more years ago, as far as I can remember a great number of the male spectators were kilted. The other abiding memory is how long we had to queue on the road to get in!
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

I have seen older pics and there did seem to be more Kilt clad people back then, the pics i have seen of recent games show far less, Im still in 2 minds as to wheather to wear a kilt as i want to be a little more casual than games dictates as Im competing the day after . I will have my camera and decent telephoto lens, like to get a few action shots of the heavies.....I used to like taking photos of the strongman comps i attended and enjoyed getting those action shots

Whatever you are comfortable in. I don't know which kilt I'll be wearing, but I will be wearing a kilt and most probably an open necked shirt. The rest depends on the weather and whether the grass is wet. If it is hot then sandals, otherwise hose and sandals or brogues and pullover / leather jacket / denim jacket. The problem with Scotland is that you have to have at least 3 seasons clothing to hand as you never know what you are going to come up against. Sometimes all in one day. I'll be camping locally and walking to the gathering, so can decide on the day.

Ashbourne isn't Braemar, but here is a motley selection of casual styles from a few years ago at the Ashbourne gathering:

Like you I'll be using a telephoto lens to get close ups of the action, but will also have a second camera to hand for any interesting spectator shots.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
