Kinloch Anderson jacket question - worth the $?

I've been looking for a new tweed jacket and waistcoat for a few years, but haven't really found anything I want in my price range (around $350 for the set). After some unfortunate measurement advice from a vendor on a bespoke jacket that resulted in something more like a tweed sack, I'm disinclined to get anything online.

Last year I took a trip over to the Brooks Brothers flagship here in NYC to check out the Kinloch Anderson pop-up that was, at the time, living on the third floor. I fell in love with their jackets, although the pricing at the time was pretty high; I'm not sure if they expected anyone to buy anything since the store was clearly tied in to the marketing scheme at the time (think three floors of tartan, antlers, and pictures of models that looked the mother ship dropped them in a peat bog). I've been looking for some time, and noticed that given recent currency fluctuations, the price for the jacket direct from Kinloch is pretty reasonable.

Questions: Has anyone purchased directly from them? Do their prices reflect VAT? How's the fit/finish? And do they only sell through their own retail outlets or does anyone carry their jackets in the US?

Looking forward to replies. Thanks all.

Well, I've also stopped by the Brooks Brothers in Manhattan to look over their Highland attire. I asked some preliminary questions of the clerk working that section and was not impressed with her ability to measure me. She did not appear familiar with the clothing; such as, the different type jackets, etc.

That too bad but not a surprise. I know plenty of Scots who don't know anything about Highlandwear, so a clerk at an unaffiliated menswear store is probably less likely to know much.

Out of curiosity, when did you go over? I wasn't sure they were still open.

Kinloch Anderson here in Edinburgh do have a good reputation as tailors of highland dress, if a wee bit expensive. The falling value of the pound against the dollar at the moment makes for better value ... on your side of the pond.

If it were me, I would not part with a penny for a jacket without first having it properly fitted by the tailor at his premises, wherever that might be. Expensive disappointment lurks if you don't.

I feel a little late to the post, but I have to reply to this. Last month, my wife and I were in Edinburgh, and I made the trip to the Kinloch shop. I went to grt a kilt in my family tartan, and wound up meeting with Liam, and was fitted for a kilt, waistcoat, and jacket, and a sarapé for my wife.
The order was just delivered, and it was worth every penny spent. The jacket and waistcoat fit better than any I've ever tried.
I would highly reccomend using them if the opprotuinty comes up, if you don't mind the price tag.
Either way, it was worth every penny spent.
