Neck tie length with kilt

I hadn't thought of it but I will be wearing a jacket and tie with my kilt but I don't have a vest/waistcoat to go with it.

What is the recommended tie length? Since a kilt sits higher I am not sure of the standard as to were it should rest?

I do intend to wear a belt.

The basic idea with a tie, kilted or in pants, is the same. The tie should come to the belt or top button. I have heard "experts" claim the top of the belt to mid-belt. Most seem to be close to the mid-belt length. When wearing a kilt you might want to use a different knot that uses more of the tie or just have less tie in the back.

The widest part of the tie should be at the top of your belt.

The only thing I have found from experience is that you can use solid colors, you can use stripes, you can use a small ,different or same color, pattern. But the only thing I have found that does not seem to work is paisley.

And of course we don't usually wear a Tartan tie with a Tartan kilt.

Interesting topic of conversation. I agree with the "widest part at the top of the belt" consensus. However, since I usually wear bow ties regardless of the formality of the occasion, I realized

I haven't worn a tie while kilted without a vest, yet. I know the length for the tip of each of my ties to my belt (while in slacks) and use different knots when needed to shorten or make longer. Knowing that same length, I would keep my tie the same while kilted. My jacket would normally be open (without a vest) and a tie will not interfere with my sporran. I don't wear a belt with my kilts but (as pointed out before) would use that as a regulator for tie length.
