Utility kilts and Burning Man

I enjoy wearing my Utilikilts kilt to various places... including any activity that includes my mom as she loves it. I consider it, as well as my traditional tartan kilt as a piece of clothing to be worn almost whenever. When I wore one to work on my last day at my last job, one comment I got when I said it was to celebrate my last day there was "it's a shame that you waited till the last day".
It seems that a lot of folks buy them to wear to events like Burning Man kind of like a costume, which is a shame. A recent post on ebay for a never-worn Mocker style kilt states that it was bought for Burning Man but the owner is not going so he is getting rid of the kilt (actually I think a Survival model is much more appropriate as the Mocker is designed for office wear, but the Mocker is cheaper). What a waste. Either you are man enough to wear the kilt anywhere, or you are a poser only brave enough to wear a kilt around other costumed people.

Wow. It's not a masculinity contest, nor is it a statement of character. Some choose to wear the kilt only where appropriate, some use it as compensation or for exhibitionism. Each to his own, but can we not judge each other's manhood by it, please? There's much more to kilts than that sort of shallow analysis.

Ok, I would agree that judging was not appropriate. It was more a comment on what a waste of money to purchase something and then immediately sell it for less than 1/2 price because because they were not going to the occasion. But, if the original purchase was to get a costume then I guess that it was the right thing to do.

Heh. Wearing costumes and funny hats for a week is exactly the point of Burning Man for many people now.
