    "Piercing sound of the pipes"

A few weeks ago, as I was sitting at a stoplight listening to a CD of pipe and drum music, I heard one of those carloads of annoying teenagers approaching with that crappy "Rap Music" cranked up so loud that the roof on their compact car seemed to be bulging with each bass beat. They pulled up next to me, and were drowning out my pipe music. So, I cranked up the volume to near full output. They turned and looked at me, then rolled up their windows. I guess that in spite of my having only a stock radio, the piercing quality of the pipes forced its way through all of the noise they were making.

    Well done.

I thought that a opera soprano would be good counter measures also.

It's unfortunate that those who want to share have bad taste in music.

    noisy neighbours...

I did the same thing in our old apartment when the girl below us was playing her rap music so loud it was vibrating through the walls...I simply laid one of the speakers on the floor, cranked up the Pipes & Drums of the 48th Highlanders of Canada, and let her have it...no more rap music after that!

    Cheers,

Nothing, but nothing can compete with the sound of the pipes, especially "crappy "Rap Music"

They are truly a "weapon of war" in the fight to set the youth free from bondage to the evil of rap!

I'm still waiting for most of my kids to mature enough to enjoy pipe music.

Have you heard Clann an Drumma? pretty good! I just bought a CD of theirs.

Now that it is that time of year, and Halloween is coming, that reminds me of a story a few years back. I had on pipe and drum bands playing on the stereo as the little ones came for their treats. One of the mother's who was standing back said that mine was the eeriest house she had been to in a long time because of those haunting pipes.

It is funny how people respond to pipe music, but I never though that it could be a response to rap music.

    Pipes & Halloween...

Why didn't I think of this sooner? In Tam O'Shanter, Burns has "Auld Nick" (The Devil) playing the pipes at the witches sabbath in Alloway Kirk -- the pipes were associated with the Deil at one point, hence was Lowland Calvinists hated Highlanders -- the documentary "Instrument of War" discusses this for a few minutes.

    It must just be us!!!

I LOVE to drive through Philadelphia blasting The Wicked Tinkers!!! Except for the Northeast area which is primarily Irish, the rest of the city just looks with wide eyes!

I'm sure the IRA sticker on the back of the van doesn't do much to justify their questions. They probably think that's my accountant.

Graham, I just missed seeing them live several years ago, due to bad weather. However I just ordered a "Clan An Drumma" CD earlier this week. I can't wait until it arrives.
