Winter tartan?
Somebody knows what is a winter tartan mentioned in the "Standing orders ..."?
Is it just more thick tartan?
What is a difference between summer and winter tartans?
As I understood from this book, this winter tartan was used only for mounted officers' pantaloons and other officers' trews worn only from 15th October to 15th April (in "cold" season)...

There is no mention of the kind of tartan worn by NCOs and ORs...
