Leg Tattoos to go with a Kilt

Looking at the new pic of Highlandtide and Miah, Miah's tats got me to remembering something I've been pondering a while.

I want my next tattoos to be leg tattoos on my calfs where they'd show between a kilt and my shoe/boot tops. Want them to be symbolic of my Viking/Scot heritage.

My choice of tats is sort of "spot" tattoos in diffent areas, rather than a sleeve (have 11 so far, but that's another addiction).

So, I'm in the process of looking for ideas both for design and placement. Have thought about things like swords, clan badges, and thistles.

Just thought I'd ask if anyone had any experience or ideas along this line...I'm guessing a lot of folks on this board have tats.

Hey, you need to contact Rocky to get a pic of his family crest tatoo. It's very cool, and quite appropriate.

I've seen crests, celtic crosses, celtic knotwork, and (no joke) one guys that has a fairy "servicing" a leprechaun. I guess that pretty well runs the gamit?!

I, myself, will stick to cuts and bruises from hockey games.

I am a huge fan of Maori style tattoos. Here is one artists page with many fine examples. If I had the cash, I would be flying to where ever he is working at the time and having some work done. Some really beutiful pieces, and all with a special meaning.

Family Crest is great, Mine is in momorey of Over the horizon navigation in small boats. it was tradition to get a nautical tattoo, so being in Japan I decided to get a Japanese style tattoo.
I got a male and female koi.
My arms are also Japanese inspired, one is a fire dragon in water, the other is a water dragon in fire. to symbolize the white guy living in the Japanese culture and still being part, but at the same time not fitting in.

I don't have any tattoos (even thought my eldest daughter has been going out with a tattoo artist for over a year). I just haven't found one I like well enough to keep the rest of my life. I did read somewhere that in areas where wearing a sgian dubh is illegal some kilted warriors will tattoo one in the appropriate place. That struck me as a real possibility for a first tattoo, that way even if I'm wearing my socks rolled or pushed down I can still "carry" my sgian dubh.

Funny that you mentioned that Jamie, I too would have one of a sgian dubh if I were to ever get one, so that one gets my vote Ron.
