I take it those are meant to be worn at least slightly off center?

I bought some sporran hangers, mainly because find the traditional chain to be annoying as heck to mess with, always getting twisted up. I then took off the chains from the hangers and replaced them with chainmaille of my own making. Daddy Likie!!

I am a little surprised to be the only big guy to chime in here so far! Personally, I use sporran hangers because of the issues that Matt brought up. My sporran slips down too far because it can't find a perch. On the other hand, the sporran hanger sold en masse are generic and slide around on the belt too much, which why the other gentleman had the issue with his sporran hanging too low- the hangers slip all the way to the belt buckle (and in one case, over the belt buckle!) which causes the sporran to hang too low. Stillwater Kilts sporran hangers are the best mass-produced ones that I've found. http://stores.channeladvisor.com/Sti...orran%20Hanger

I also have the Stillwaters, that I removed the chains from, for my lower riding sporrans, and for the higher riding ones, I use Buzz Kidder loops.

And with the shoe squarely on the other foot, I'm a man of substance with MUCH larger hips/butt than waist. I can't stand the hangers... just don't like the way they look. I've found straps are a personal preference and I'll never go to chains again, even in formal wear.

I wear the sporran hangers myself, for all the reasons mentioned above.

I found key chains that hang from the belt and turned those into very functional and comfortable hangers. Ran me less than $5.00

I have a set of sporran hangers and the only problem I have had is with my semi-trad pv kilt. The whole belt seems to want to slide down, it does not happen with my wool kilts so I assume it has to do with the pv being slipperier than wool. I hook my leather sporran strap over the buckles on both sides of my kilt and I no longer get the bunched looked between my sporran and belt.

I have both a sporran belt and a hanger for both of my sporrans. I like the flexibility having both gives me. The kilt belt, sporran belt, and my hangers have the Velcro loop part sewn on the inside. The Velcro prevents the belts and hanger from sliding on the kilt. Using the loop instead of the hook part of the Velcro protects the material.

Here's a photo of one of the sporrans with the belts and hanger.
