New Year's Eve

I will be attending a New Year's Eve event where the recommended attire is Business Casual. I'm wondering which sporran best fits that catagory.

Please review the following pictures and let me know which one you think is best.

Rob Roy style by Buzz Kidder

Black patent leather sporran (SHINY)

Plain black sporran with Sam Browne closure

White rabbit fur with chrome cantle

I can use the leather strap with all of the sporrans except for the fur one (it just looks wrong for some reason).

My choice, the Rob Roy or the plain black sporran with the Sam Browne closure and using the leather belt for either one.

Lancer, I too would go with either of the basic leather sporrans and leather strap. Given the level of dress given on the invitation, I would also consider going with a tweed jacket, if available, or sweater and tie instead of the black Argyle.

Hmm... I know you said sporran... But to me, business casual would be far less formal than any of those options... I guess it may depend on regional preferences, but here, biz casual would mean a sweater, or at the very most, a grey argyll... Maybe a waistcoat, but without a jacket.

As for the sporran, definitely the most casual of the above would be best I think.

It sounds like the general concesus is to go with a tweed jacket with/without a waist coat and maybe without a tie and the most casual sporran I own which would be either the Rob Roy or the plain black with Sam Browne closure. Most of the sweaters that I own are crew neck so a tie might not be fesable. If I went with the tweed jacket and no vest, I have a couple of black kilt belts with not too shiny waist plates.

If I'm understanding you guys correctly, I should go with a tweed jacket, button down shirt, tie, casual sporran, kilt, kilt belt, hose, maybe flashes and shoes to match the sporran and belt.

I would agree. That jacket is too much for Business Casual. I would go with any of the sporrans except the fur, with a dress shirt and tie and a casual jacket or a waistcoat. Personally, I would go with the jacket as I don't really care for how I look in a waistcoat without a jacket, kilted or not. Some guys can pull it off. I'm not one of them, IMO.
