In our summers a nice long plaid is handy both for preventing sunburn and warding off hailstones - often on the same afternoon, for putting on top of the lightweight duvet when you wake frozen cold at 3am, and as a dressing gown when you can't quite remember where you left your clothes for the day, but you know they can't be far away.
The last is one of the slightly interesting things about growing old, and possibly something to do with the conservatory - where clean clothes happen - being downstairs at the back of the house and my bed being upstairs and right at the front, making it surprisingly easy to put them down and wander away without them. At least I only lose the clothes I was carrying ....
