Hi there - I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on a car boot find I had today. It is black watch kilt - military as it has the crows foot (very very faint) in the lining. Also extremely heavy. The cloth is great - it just needs a brush and a press. No holes or moth nibbles but I was wondering if anyone knew how I could tell it's age? It doesn't have the green band around the top you see on newer ones. It isn't fully lined, though is lined with what I would describe as quite a rough canvass - almost hessian. As I mentioned it has the crows foot and either side of it the letters W and D stamped - could this be War Department?? It has one long leather strap with holes for a double buckle - I assume that this wraps round the back? The double buckle is there and in very good condition and looks to be made by Wilkinson Sword.
Any guesses? All views very gratefully received and thank you for your patience with my first post.
