I received my first kilt a couple weeks ago, and it only has two straps, at the waist. It was handmade by Dalgleish. Seeing Philips' internal support, I was wondering if anyone has tried a rubberized internal waistband to help prevent slippage, much as is found in trousers. I'm sure I'm not the only portly gentleman whose waist is practically non existent.

I had considered incorporating a rubberized waistband (may still). Thanks for the inclusion of the "Portly" description, I am with you...
The reasons for my experiment is that my belly/waist dimensions can change dramatically, depending on which medication I take... I have for the past 4yrs resided in sweat pants...(lots of give). But most restrictive as to which venue the wife will allow me to attend....

Here's a bat-poo crazy idea...how about a collapsable pleat on either side that can be let out or taken in as needed? You could tie it into your stabliser maybe? That way you have a three-way adjustment to accommodate your needs.
Maybe it's a good idea; maybe it's a silly idea...

The "collapsing pleat" would require that you re-establish the inside fold with each adjustment.
A few years back, another kilt maker (no longer active on this forum) floated the following idea for adjustment, IIRC.
Make the top apron a separate piece with D-rings at both left and right sides. Make the kilt beneath as large as you might ever need it, pleated all the way around and with webbing attached.
At its smallest waist size, the pleats might meet at front center but that would be hidden by your top apron. As waist size expands, adjust webbing in the D-rings so that pleats are exposed in equal amounts at both left and right sides of the top apron. You'd have to strike a balance in the width of top apron; it might look a bit wide at your smallest setting and a bit narrow at your largest setting.
I don't recall how modesty/underapron might have worked, if that was even taken into account. My description may also be faulty due to the Swiss-cheese nature of my memory.
I also don't know if this idea was ever put into practice but it's an interesting concept. The member in question had his membership revoked and I don't know the protocol (i.e., is he know "never to be named"?). Will gladly give credit where due in PM or if a mod can clarify that question.

Update: everything installed, need to finish tacking liner down... Will take a while until my Lupus flare settles....
Not happy with waist band  , but I am not about to start pulling stitches on a casual/casual/experimental... Philip

Well I had a group meeting last night and after a good laugh about the harness, it was decided that I would not repeat the experiment.
Reasoning:
- No need for webbing that exceeds 3000'# tensile strength
- >600'# for the waist straps was over kill, and
- we/I are OK with the buckles even though they held static test to almost 200'#
Next version will be much lower tech.. LOL.
Despite the HD harness this kilt is comfortable and easy to wear.
