The St. Louis Highland Games.....an end to the season.

Just got home from the St. Louis highland games. What a fantastic weekend. Got to meet Kyle (Creaqdhubh) finally...lol. Had a marvelous conversation with him. Kyle, thank you for the kind words you said about the Clan Donald tent. It makes all of the hard work worth it to hear something like that. Also, thanks for the words about the "beard"...lol. It's still growing and I don't know when I'll stop it...

I will be posting a few photos in a day or two. It always saddens me when the games season ends in Missouri. I only have seven months to plan next years stuff. We will be adding more to the Clan Donald tent and adding a few more pieces of information. Can't rest on our laurels....have to keep on the cutting edge.

They actually got me to do the Scottish country dancing....If it weren't for the two lovely ladies...they'd have never have dragged me out there..So thanks to Heidi and my mom...lol. I have other photos but won't post them here because they contain our weapons display and I don't want this thread moved.

I can't wait for the season to start again in April here in Missouri. Here is to a great off season and planning for next year.

    Absolutely wonderful photos, mate!

I'm pleased that you had such a lovely time at the games this year. I think this may have been the largest number in attendance, yet I did notice that the organisers "condensed" the overall area somewhat, so that may have been the reason it felt that way. In any rate, it was a splendid day out and again, well done on the Clan Donald tent...a textbook example of what a clan association tent should be! I look forward to spending more time with you and yours in St. Charles come April. These events tend to fly by, especially for Stephanie and I, since we longer live in the area - we're constantly getting pulled in a million different directions as we run into old friends all day long, but hey, we're definitely not complaining!

    Best wishes,

Great grandfather's brother , Dan McDonald moved to Hamilton Missouri around 1880 and got into the general
store business before moving on to Spokane. My family ancestor's originated in Argylshire and came to Canada
in 1831. Good to hear Scottish traditions still being maintained and are successful.

Teàrlach, thanks for sharing your pictures; looks like a good time was had by all. Didn't know that you could dance, Charles. Lookin' good and you got to walk away with two ladies!

I like those night shots. What is it that they are depicting?

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle. Thanks mate! Always enjoy walking with the lovely ladies. The night shots are the Calling of the Clans. It reenacts when clans were called to war against a common enemy, mainly the English...lol. Each clan that answered the call would show up and brag about what their clan has done, then prepare for war around the fire. It is a cool thing to participate in and be involved with...I love it. Here is a video clip of my "calling" speech.

Thank you again, Charles; I appreciate the explanation of the "Calling of the Clans". By the way, your "Call" presenting your clan was excellent.

So sorry to have missed St Louis, and you. Everyone is well, now. But it wasn't so last weekend.

I walked past your Clan Tent but did not stop in. Sorry to have missed you!
My wife and I drove down from Michigan. My sister and her granddaughter came up from central Missouri and we all spent a great day together.
I thought the games were well organized. Compact, but not at all crowded.
If we come back again next year (very likely) I'll look in on you.

    Tom
