Reflecting on the Week
Greetings all my kilted friends,
Last Monday I decided to measure reactions either plus or minus on my kilt wearing for an entire week. What I noticed was not unusual for my kilted experience.
I spent Monday walking around to various destinations. A lot of waves, several people said "cool kilt". Five people I knew yelled "Hi Glen", but the best thing that happened was when a friend was walking with her two kids aged 5 and 2. When the 5 year old said something about Glen's kilt his little sister misunderstood and said "Glen's cool", I had no problem with that.
Tuesday and Wednesday nothing more than people driving down the street or riding their bikes yelling "Hi Glen".
Thursday as I was walking I noticed that I could get a pretty good beat going with the tassles hitting my sporran. More people yelled "Hi Glen", even some that I do not know. Went to a grand opening that evening and talked to several people, including an older lady who said that her Father was in WWI with the Ladies from Hell and asked if I had ever heard of them, we had a marvelous time talking.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday found me in Estes Park for the Long's Peak Festival. About 75,000 people and about 1/2 of them male and more than half of all males kilted. It was such a joy to be around so many other kilted men, just wish it would happen more often.
In the entire week I did not hear one negative remark (at least within earshot).

Life is good indeed, by the sounds of it. Like you, the comments I receive are mostly on the complimentary side, but every once in a while I hear a negative remark, usually from a younger guy in a car that is speeding away from me. But as my friend Lance often says, it takes more balls to wear a kilt than to shout an insult from a safe distance.

"Hi Glen"...had to say that
that's a good response, but be careful, next thing you know you'll want to wear a kilt all the time!
My weekend was a mix of travel, hiking, a visit to some Highland tearooms, a visit to the hardware store.
The only comment I got was are you Scottish?" said is a very positive way.
Most people i encountered said nothing, just glanced.
While I was buying paint a man with a strong Scottish accent was also at the counter, but he said nothing.
So all very ordinary really! but that's OK.
Denverites must be a litte more outgoing with comments than Tasmanians.

Glen,
I'm getting to be known, in Kanata, as the man in the kilt.
People are con tinually striking up conversations with me or a least giving me a smile after I acknowledge that they have taken a second look at my kilt.
My new neighbour didn't even recognize me the other day when she saw me in my a suit instead of my kilt.

As I've said before Norwegians are usually very reserved. I do get the occassional comment like I described in an earlier thread .It lifts the spirts no end.

I suspect that most of us, being one of few in our areas seen in a kilt are called by the same "title".
