    As someone has already been said, a traditional wide kilt belt is only really necessary with a Montrose or similar jacket. I wear a normal jeans/trousers belt most days to carry a bag, as opposed to wearing a sporran around the house; but a kilt should not ever require a belt to stop it falling down, that is what the adjustable buckles are for. If it needs a belt then you should be adjusting the buckle/strap positions (as many of us have had to do over the years) or buying a different size.
    If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

    I could/would not wear a kilt without a belt (except with a waiscoat) although I dont need one to hold up my kilt. It's just there to complete the look. I do dispense with belt loops, though. I could/would not wear a pair of trousers or (shudder) jeans without a belt either (except with a waistcoat).
