Questions about ordering my first kilt.

All right y'all convinced me what I've been thought about getting a semi kilt. So, after a phone call with Rocky at USAK to confirm about the measurements. I've made my first kilt order! Of course I threw in a rush fee. I ain't going to wait for up to 6-10 weeks to get my kilt!

I cannot wait to get my hands on my American Heritage kilt along with a day pin sporrans, a match flashes, an American Eagle belt buckle, a belt, a sporrans straps, a couple of colored hoses, and etc. I think I'm going to look very handsome in it!

Anyone have a good suggestion for "American-like" kilt pin?

I deeply appreciate everyone's chimed in for their advice!

Welcome from central Indiana. Just starting to warm up some here. Probably doing the same in your neck of the woods. I spent one summer in Denver; I almost did not leave. It is a lovely city.

As to your choices for your first kilt, American Heritage tartan will be a fine one to get. As to choosing between a causal, semi-traditional, or a 5 yard wool, I chose the 5 yard wool for mine (Celtic Nations). Your choice will be based on how often and to where you want to wear your kilt.

A casual will be great for daily run of the mill activities. The semi-traditional will be a bridge between casual and more formal: usable for either. The 5 yard wool does the same, but has the feel of real wool and requires more careful maintanance. So which ever you choose, enjoy it. You will not regret any of your choices.

I don't know if Rocky still has any in stock, but he had some ex-rental 8 yd kilts in American Heritage for around $300.

Look into eventually getting something handmade in the Colorado tartan, that's what I'm doing. and in the meantime i've got two USAK casual kilts on the way https://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/ta...s.aspx?ref=713

Not to question your decision. But have you seen the new state seal tartans at USA kilts? the Colorado tartan is attractive.

search 'kilt pins' on this forum and you will find a number of informative threads. One thought that comes to mind, from having read it in here, is to fashion a pin to a large US denomination coin such as a dollar or a commemorative.

... and, depending on your size, a good quality used kilt is not a bad way to start (or to build) your collection. Since kilts are a bit like popcorn - it's hard to stop at one - a used one is often good value for money.

wow, yeah that State Seal tartan is definitely going on the list of future buys. I'm in the same boat not having any Clan blood, but I'll proudly represent The-State-Closest-to-Heaven all day!

The Colorado State Seal tartan is on my wishlist along with a couple of more tartans to buy! As Superdan pointed out nicely about The-State-Closest-To-Heaven. That state seal tartan is a must.

My kilt and etc arrived last Monday, and how much do I love wearing it so far?? Let's say it's the third straight day of kilting.. and it's snowing here in Denver!

The American Heritage Tartan is fabulous! Rocky and his staffs at USAK did a great job!
