Vest

I tried the search feature, but it was not helpful.
I am trying to find good resources (places to buy) vests to wear with my kilt. I would like some nice ones, as well as some robust ones ( I tend to work in my kilt, and by work, I mean manual labor kind). I think the vest looks right smart, but when I google, all I seem to get is suit vests.
Any help, including sending me to a informative thread is much appreciated.

Bottom line is that kilt vests are about the same size as Saxon vests, so you could use the ones you found. I personally wear my sporran a wee bit higher than some for my personal comfort, so I buy the ones that have a square bottom front to avoid them quarrelling.

Aye, I thought about that, but I wouldn't want to run the skill saw, or mend fences with the ones I found ! I'm guessing that no one makes robust vests for everyday wear for the outdoor folk.

Try websites that supply for the Single Action Shooting Society. I have a couple of vests that are heavier material like denim or canvas. I have ordered from Wild West Mercantile several times. http://www.wwmerc.com/cgi-bin/Catego...020&type=store they have both lighter dress styles and heavier fabric ones.
I think this is more what your looking for as a work vest. There are several other websites that sell this kind of thing, just search for "cowboy action clothes" on your favorite search engine.

An option (for you particularly) would be at Western Outfitters on Goodman Rd. South Haven, MS. The leather western style vests are light weight and durable for work, however will get hot during our summers. The cuts are higher (at belt height) and will clear a sporran. The ones I have gotten there have large inner pockets as well as two small outer pockets. The prices are okay.

One source that immediately comes to mind for vests that can stand on their own is https://www.gentlemansemporium.com/store/vests.php . They have some that are short with a non-satin back that go quite well with a kilt.

Agreed with Gentlemansemporium, they have quite a large selection and reasonable prices. If I didn't sew my own I would buy from them. Sewing your own work vests from heavy cotton canvas or duck cloth is an option if you or someone you know sews. Also the shop goodwill auction site always has a listing of quite a few vest, many of them leather and suede.

A google search for "canvas vest" or "waxed cotton vest" will bring up photos of lots of them, and you can expand out into other materials from there.
