First time Kilt, problem with fit?
Hello,
so new in this Forum and allready pestering my betters.
Long Story short. After long consideration and saving up, i orderd my first Kilt. It is a Casual Black Watch. May i upload some pics of me wearing it? My Bodyform may have distorted the measurements. Or i am to klutzy to do them right. If the Members could take a look and tell me if i look like ive put on a miniskirt, that woult help me a lot. Il take the Pictures after i come from Work.
Wish i could have gone to the Store to have my measurements taken. Onlineshoping, the bane of the poor.
Till later
Marcel

Happy to take a look, if you took your measurements on your own you might have induced an error. Another factor might be where you measured your waist and if that is indeed where you are wearing it

There is also the very common problem that ALL traditional style kilts are designed to fit differenly than blue jeans. Traditional style kilts must be worn in the older style with the top strap cinched into the anatomical waist. (Or about three to four finger widths below the bottom of the breastbone.)
Very few guys today have ever worn anything made like this. They don't know, and are not taught, that a kilt is not a pair of pants.
If you try to wear a kilt like you wear pants it simply will not fit well or look good.
A kilt is one of the few garments left in todays world made this way. You can't adjust the fit of the kilt to how you are used to wearing other clothing - you adjust your thinking to the garment.

I wear the kilt because: Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

When i was measured, i was standing upright, measured from whaistline to the middle of the knee. I hold the Kilt to my whaistline and it hangs to middle of my knee. But when i put it on this is the result.
Now, is this still ok? The bottom kinda floats 1cm, 0,4 inch above the knee. Got the bodyshape of a Chicken

This does look too short for you unfortunately. I appreciate this is a casual kilt which may sit lower on the hip than a traditional kilt.
Kilt sites usually have a diagram of where to measure but the kilt lady in Belfast measures you kneeling from the navel to to the floor and I expect there will be a series of more expert posts on how to do it.

I agree with John, it does look too short. I presume you wear your pant low and might have chosen that line as your waist. As Steve discusses above, "waist" means something quite different with a kilt. The fabricator presumes that waist line in making whichever style of kilt.
However, it appears you have the strap(s) cinched to the very last hole. If you ease back one or two, the kilt might settle down some on/over your hips, with that odd pull of fabric to your left on the apron also settling out. It can take a little bit of getting used to the kilt being strapped on well enough to just hold it in place, even though you might feel its about to slip off. Try balancing the holes of straps on either side equally starting with "is this going to fall off?" and moving around a bit. Then going incrementally tighter if needed.
You're aiming for the bottom of the kilt to be in line with the top or middle of your knee cap

I usually wear my kilts about 1 inch above the knee, so I think this looks okay if you wear it at your jeans waist. This may look better if you had kilt hose and wore those a bit high.
I have casual kilts that hit mid-knee when worn at the jeans waist, but are one inch above the knee when worn at the navel.

I have a sleek figure similar to yours, (complete with frontal sun deck), and wear my kilt on the upper side of said sun deck, not the lower. If you were to attempt to do that your kilt would be far too short. Not sure what to suggest other than wearing it below the sun deck with a sweater over top.
