The first attempt is always the hardest, @imbrius. You have what many don't, the support of your woman. Wear you kilt proudly and remember many of your contemporaries don't have the cojones to do so. And there is nothing inherently wrong in wearing white hose. Most of started with wearing them too.

Don't knock white hose, the great thing about them is you can dye them any colour you want.

Don't worry too much much about your ancestors either, I'm sure that if you are like a lot of us you'll have done plenty of other things to embarrass them already and vice versa.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

    Kilted Friday Attempt

Thanks for the support. I appreciate it. I sometimes feel (inadequate?) because I know what a kilt CAN and SHOULD look like and I know mine DOESN'T (because it's very cheaply made and it shows) but you have given me the courage to wear it proudly knowing I've done the best I can.

The sun has gone away, thank god it's killing weather again

Well at long last the temperatures have dropped down to around 20 Celsius, haven't been kilted for around 2 months.

Nothing special happened today, except the other Scottish chap in our team was challenged by the ladies "why aren't you wearing your kilt", poor guy.

It's been great kilting weather in Derbyshire, worn one every day.

Killer heat wave in Virginia, but I'm cool as a cuke in my USA Kilts casual in Grey Thompson tartan. On the road to see my Dad I pulled into a Wawa (service station) for a cup of coffee. Concentrating on putting a lid on a cup of coffee, I heard a female voice asking how I was doing today. I responded and asked the beaming associate how she was, thinking if I was bifurcated this would not have occurred. A moment later as I was llooking for something to go with the coffee, another female associate said one of the other girls wondered where I was going.

I told her and said she wants to know because of the kilt. Yes, she replied and I told her I wore a kilt on Fridays as a takeoff on Casual Fridays. Then I added that the next two weekends I would be attending Highland Games. She sighed with delight and said have a good time.

Gee, I wished I had taken up kilt wearing when I was a young man.

    Kilted Friday, Not!

My Kilted “Friday” Adventures shall expand the next two weeks beyond Fridays. Our local XMTS Rabble are meeting up Thursday evening at Park Lane Tavern for William Wallace Day. Friday is an off day for me to head for Saturday’s Green Hill Highland Games in Salem, VA. On Sunday, our local Scottish Society are gathering at the Colonial Tavern for recognizing William Wallace Day.

The following weekend, Labor Day weekend is our Virginia Scottish Games. Again, I have Friday off for preparations for that weekend. I just may continue my kilt wearing next week through the 4 office work days tying the two long weekends of kilt wearing together. I find wearing the kilt before these events help spread the word of them to encourage those of Scottish ancestry or those who just want to have fun; to attend.

As one who is in a kilt much, if not most, of the time, I heartily underline that point. I get stopped frequently by inquiries about what occasion
prompts the kilt, and I almost always remind or inform them that the Stone Mountain games will be in October. And that they still have time to get a kilt.

    Kilted Friday, Not!

Yesterday, wore my XMTS tartan USA Kilt casual. Paired it with a seersucker shirt and cotton hose.

So, I began my kilt day run one day early, due to medical concerns. Upon waking I found a red rash around my waist. Good grief! Never had chicken pox and I got the shingles vaccination a little less than two years ago. But I think it is a mild case of it. Hoping to see the doctor, today.

But trousers and boxers would be riding right on the rash. Wearing the kilt at the natural waist commando was the perfect solution! [Yeah, I hear you - more information than I want to know!]

I had an appointment for a dental cleaning and was a big hit with the staff. The dental hygienist, Kate is a bonnie lass and I look forward to my semi-annual visits. Afterward the dentist gave a long yarn about his Virginia family heritage and his DNA testing. The staff were rolling their eyes.
