The fine lines are relatively finer, and the open spaces more open; there are greater differences in the widths of adjacent bands than we see now.
Stewart's comment is valid but what he never realised was that most of Logan's counts were hopelessly inaccurate because he clearly didn't understand what a pivot was or how to record a threadcount.

    One man’s meat

Understanding thread count and what colours to use delves into another realm altogether e.g. the subject of weaving theory (thread count) required if one is designing for different weights of fabric and the various uses, heavy, light wool or lightweight fabric and its use, Kilt (winter or summer) kilt skirt or accessories etc. Along with colour theory (colours that work together) covered under the repeat pattern process.
The point here can be basically summed up with the proverb 'one man’s meat is another’s poison'

    Hi!
After many attempts and combinations, and I have really tried different variants on a daily basis, I am ready to share the results with you.
I have followed your suggestions and impressions, and I hope you will re-evaluate how successful I have been.
Personally, I think this is definitely a step in the right direction, and you will (hopefully) tell me if it's big enough

My favorite is the second design, I prefer this combination of red and gray (two colors), more than pure red. What do you think?

I’m no authority on tartans but aesthetically speaking, I think the second print you have there is the more pleasing of the two. Looks grand!

    Hi!
I would say we have a winner, at least for now ...
But first of all thanks to the members who commented my ideas, especially OC Richard,
who opened my eyes and encouraged me to make additional attempts and new designs.
Personally, I am very pleased with the result, and to get an impression of how the development went, here are a few photos.

What was never questionable were the colors, and the elements I want to incorporate / weave into the tartan.
Composition is another matter ... I'm going to rest a bit, and then a new set of questions related to this topic will follow...

    Most likely our family/new tartan

    Hi!
So, if you have decided to make your own tartan, you will definitely need a tartan designer, I have found a few, and here is what it looks like:

    CLAN by Scotweb

    Tar02.JPG

    Tar01.jpg

    House of tartan (Interactive Weaver)

    Tar04.JPG

    Tar06.JPG

    USA Kilts

    Tar10.jpg

    Tar12.JPG

Here you can see only the choice of colors and the final result of your design.
    My personal order is:
    1. CLAN (lots of accompanying topics with good advice, realistic display and great color choice)
    2. USA Kilts (simple, clear, satisfying)
    3. House of tartan (average, basic, strange looking and poor color choice)

If you have another suggestion for a tartan design or your opinion differs feel free to add it here.

    To be continued...

    tartan designer

Another option is to use Photoshop, you can create your own design or use a plug-in to create the pattern.

Sorry this may have already been said, sometimes "less" is actually "more"

I thought the design the OP showed is too busy.

I'm not sure about 2 and 3 but I seem to recall that Scotweb assert their rights t any design produced using their software.

    I really like that one!!

The larger blue-grey bands give a nice warm/cool balance.
