    New from those Lovely Folks @ Utilikilt!

    The SPARTAN!

    http://www.utilikilts.com/news-05-05.htm
    Scroll down for pictures

    And an description from http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/uti.../message/24078

    > Spartan UK? Seen the pictures but aside from colors what be these
    > critters?

    I am so glad I can finally talk about these babies!!

    The Spartan is the latest all-new kilt from Utilikilts. It is modeled
    after professional boxer's trunks... incredibly lightweight, wide
    elastic waistband, drawstring, and a single zippered wallet pocket in
    the back.

    You have never owned or felt anything as lightweight as this kilt. It
    is amazing.

    Now, I know some of you are scoffing right now, saying "No way man", or
    "That's not for me at all", and I understand your feelings. Tony and I
    were total skeptics as well. We thought the Spartan was a too-far a
    deviation from the UK norm, and only a "certain group of men" would buy
    it.

    Well, we are both pleased to say that we were dead wrong!!

    Even holding the kilt in hand, you are doubtful. But the moment you
    step into it (because the elastic waistband is the closure, the snaps
    are just cosmetic!), a grin comes over your face and you start
    laughing. It is simply the most amazing thing to wear! Tony and I are
    both converts. The customer yesterday that I forced to put one on, he
    is now a convert.

    When Steven puts his on it is like he has just had 12 espressos in a
    row! He zooms around the office, jumps over stuff, races G.O.D. up and
    down the stairs, and uses his trademark happy-yell of "WAHOO!" even
    more often. He laughs about how animated he gets when wearing the
    Spartan, and says "It's the kilt, man! I haven't had any coffee today
    at all!"

    Throw on a sweatshirt, some white tennis shoes, and a black Spartan,
    and you are ready for any activity. It really is a blast...

    Finally, I like to think of the Spartan as my Driving Kilt. It is so
    lightweight and comfortable, it is like driving naked... and we all
    know what fun THAT can be! ;-) Seriously, though, driving becomes a
    different experience in this kilt because the boys ain't cramped (like
    with pants), the cargo pockets aren't in the way (as sometimes happens
    with UKs other kilts), and even if the pleats bunch up under you, it is
    never uncomfortable because they are so light weight.

    Try the Spartan. You'll love it!

    $95 each, still a bit more for larger sizes. I got mine Saturday, and I have some more in stock and will be bringing them to the SoCal HG this coming weekend.

    Anyone have any questions?

    Is UK going to have a rep at the Potomac Celtic fest, June 11 and 12 in Leesburg Va, and if so will they have any Spartans with them?

    Yes, UK will be at the Potomac HG but I cant answer about their stock. Likely nobody knows yet, as availability is still small and its a long ways away yet.

    I'd guess there is a good chance they'll at least have a couple, even if not in your size or a color you want. You'll at least get a chance to see them.

    Also, dont be afraid to ask if the have one there personally. I always bring all my kilts with me for display, so people can see what they look like broken in.

    Unsorted Facts, Q&A and a Review from the UK board:

    Assorted Facts:

    Spartans are currently on the rack, and shipping.

    They are pleated with UKs Patented Symmetrical Pleating System, but the
    waistband is 3 inch wide and elastic, with a drawstring. Just like pro
    Boxer's trunks. The UK "Six Snap" logo is center front on the waistband
    (just like Boxer's trunks), and there are two vertical silver stripes
    from the hip to the hemline on both sides, on all three colors.

    Inside, there is a "floating apron" which is connected at the
    waistband, and hangs loose inside the kilt in front of your johnson.
    This provides another layer of fabric to decrease your... erm...
    "profile" in front. ;-)

    The only pocket is a small zippered pocket over the right butt cheek,
    where you can keep some cash or a credit card, house/car keys, and
    condoms. The bare necessities!

    The overall look of the kilt is sleek and sporty, and the shiny fabric
    gives it a feeling of being just slightly flashy, too.

    We have photos of it now, and those will be appearing on the website
    soon.

    Spartan.....
    Here's the size break down for the Spartans.
    Sm = 30-33
    Md = 34-37
    Lg = 38-41
    Xl = 42-46
    2x = 47-52
    3x = 53-60

    Base price is $95, they have the traditional UK sewn pleats just
    attached to an elastic waistband. Sizes run Small, Med, Large,
    XLarge, and then the normal 21.5, 23. 24.5 lengths.

    Q & A from UK board:

    QUESTION: What colors do they come in? And if the material is so light
    weight, won't the slightest wind cause you to have a Marilyn Monroe
    monent?

    ANSWER: I'd noticed in mine this weekend that because the material is also
    somewhat sheer the wind just passes through it. It still will blow
    around a bit but when I jumped off the back of my truck with it, it
    ballooned no more than any of my other kilts of the way down. Because
    the wind can go right through the material it doesnt have as much push.

    REVIEW from UK board:

    So whats a Spartan?

    A Spartan is like wearing pure naked bliss. Its awesome. I got mine
    Saturday as I worked Long Beach Pride, and it was worth the wait (not
    that I havent been bugging them for it for several months)

    Elastic waistband with a draw string, step in variety not the familiar
    wrap and snap. It has the trademark six snaps on the front apron but
    they are for looks only, just sort of deadhead snaps to dress it up.

    The material is a super lightweight nylon, SUPER lightweight. Very
    very finely meshed. You cant see the holes of the mesh but they let
    every little bit of breeze through on a hot day.

    Current models have one, right side rear pocket with a zipper, just
    perfect for stashing your house key, I.D., and maybe a couple bucks
    cash as you head out for a jog.

    Now one of the coolest things about the Spartan is the inside flap it
    has. Try to stay with me as I explain it. Right inside the front of
    the waistband, just under the centered UK logo on the waistband is a
    strip of the material about 4 inches wide and just a few inches
    shorter than the length of the kilt. Its free hanging except for
    where it is attached at the very top. Now, where you to grab your
    apron and lift it up, 'exposing' yourself what would really happen is
    that the fabric strip would still be hanging directly between your
    legs providing cover. Same deal if you happened to be sitting on the
    quad sled machine at the gym and bent your knees on the downstroke.
    That little strip is going to prevent you from getting your gym
    membership revoked and criminal charges filed.

    I've got the red right now and its hot. Sort of a maroon/burgundy
    color, a nice dark red. Its also available in black and a bright
    green. Now only if they had royal blue... (Duke colors)

    Question

    Even more lightweight? I thought people wanted heavier, not lighter?
