Too Cold for a kilt...not likely

I still think you snow-bound guys are a lot hardier in the cold than I am. We've been having lovely temps here in Texas, & I'm sitting here typing with cold hands. Must get some coffee...

So what you're saying is that you wouldn't survive up here on a day like today. Woke up to -18C temps (0F). It's a little chilly now, so I think I'll finally break out the winter jacket when I head off to work. I might even see if I can find my gloves. :mrgreen:

I hear ya Al G. woke up this morning it was the same here. They say tonite that it's going down to -23, with no warming trend tomorrow.

Guess it's getting time to break out the Mukluks and touque. Wonder how that will look with a kilt.

in the San Francisco Bay area...like about 60 degrees or something.

Been snowing here for the last three days. As of now we probably have about 8-9 inches. The main highway from town is pretty clear, kept that way because of the local ski area nearby. Which had a world record snowfall three or four years ago. Daughter stayed home from work last night, came over and played poker until about 4AM. Temp outside is hovering around 34F.

Good on ya for doing snow removal duty in a kilt. I remember shoveling snow away from a stuck vehicle one night in the dark, after a pipe band event. I'm certain if there'd been anyone around to help or observe, they would have gotten a very obvious answer to the perennial question. However, except for my knees, I stayed warm, and the snow shovelling actually had me warmed up to the point that I had to take my coat off.

St. Andrew's Day -- I would have liked to kilt up today. May have to, for a while, when I return home this evening. It's about 20 deg. F. here, today, with lots of snow. I don't generally mind the cold that much, when kilted, but my old-football-injury impaired circulation right knee tends to object strenuously if I spend too much time kilted outside on a day like this one.

More snow on the way out of the Pacific Northwest, so folks further east of the Rockies can be expecting more snowstorms through at least the end of the week. Lots of opportunities for going kilted to various wintertime activities. I'll look forward to reading more reports.

Not that its likely to matter for most, but remember sweat is death if you are really out in the cold.

Doesnt matter if you're going back in the house after shoveling, but if you are spending any true length of time in the cold be careful not to sweat. You'll lose too much body heat when you get wet and could get hypothermic.

Cold weather survival has a lot of contradictory do's and donts. Ironically one of the big problems can also be overheating. When you are cold you dont get thirsty so do drink, and get dehydrated and overheat easier.

Its kind of funny to pop open a Marines sealed flak jacket, field jacket, LBV, etc.. and see a cloud of steam rise up.

I'm jealous of all you folks with cold weather. It's been 60F here in Boston the past two days! What's going on with that?! Tomorrow's the first day of December, and it feels like spring outside.

This reminds me of my forced marches in the corps. After "many miles" we'd stop to drink water and change socks. We'd take off our kevlar helmets and everyone looked like a smoke stack with steam coming off our heads. Ahhhhhhh, good times
