Its only through the support and encouragement from the members of X Marks that I gained the confidence to wear my Cilt simply when I want to and where I want to. This has taken quite some time, as many of you know, but I feel I have just about got there. My wife has never given me any grief over wearing my Cilt, its always been down to my own condidence, which I greatly lacked prior to everyone giving it to me here at X Marks . Its been a great journey, but more importantly its been made an extra special journey as it has enabled me (and Elaine) to meet Hamish, Rob (Lincs) and Phil (Yorks) personally, and what fantastic and caring people they are .. we would never have met if it had not been for this board bringing together like minded souls who a proud to wear a piece of cloth around their waist, known as a Kilt/Cilt. Hopefully we will be meeting Calmac when Wales play Scotland in Feb. X Marks is a really fab place and I dunno what anyone of us would do if it wasn't here.

Agree with all that everyone has said. I am looking forward to meeting Derek before the Wales v Scotland rugby match on Feb 12 - certainly would not have happened if I had not been put in touch with xmarksthescott by big Paul.

I was thinking I was on the extreme fringe, wearing a UK and frequenting the UK Yahoo site, before I found XMarks. Without XMarks, I would've thought that the UK was the only casually worn kilt and that the people on that site were representative of kilt-wearers. I never would have even considered wearing a traditional style as casual everyday attire.

Thanks to XMarks, I see that I'm actually a little further in on that aforementioned fringe, and that the majority of kilters are actually mature, polite, broad-minded individuals that I wouldn't mind meeting someday.

Wow! What a thread! I can't really say enough about how important this community has become to me. I had already commited myself to wearing a kilt on a regular basis before I found this forum (on day number two if I can be so bold as to brag about that). I've seen interesting people come and go, though most have stayed. I've had the privilege of meeting Hamish on two different occasions. I've been able to party with the Vancouver B.C. contingent. I have kilts built by people I feel that I know to some degree instead of from faceless craftsmen through some catalog. The Kilts made by people I know are much more meaningful to me. I have many other people I hope to meet personally at some future date. I am part of a global community. When I talk to local people who try to tell me misinformation I can speak with authority because of the information learned from people here. That's when it really hits home that "global community" isn't a catch phrase, I "know" people in Tasmania, England, Scotland, Norway, Finland, etc. etc.

What a great place Hank built. Thanks Hank and all of you hard working moderators. And thank you all you other members for letting me hang around.

I started wearing a kilt before I stumbled onto this site, but I have to say that UI really enjoy the shared comraderie. After all isn't that what being a community is all about?

I can also appreciate the support that members of this board give to men new to the kilt. I do not even notice the strange looks that people give me, although my wife says that they are quite common. I seldom feel uncomfartable when I am kilted, but I remember how I felt the first few times I donned the plaid.

I found X Marks after first finding Bravehearts. There were warnings that X Marks was highly moderated (read restrictive) so I delayed for a month or so before making my way over. I lurked for a few days and saw familiar names, like GMan and Riverkilt so I jumped in.

I really appreciate the moderation. It might step on a few toes occasionally, but it keeps this place a balanced experience for all. While I don't agree with all the viewpoints here, I have come to respect everyone here greatly.

X Marks has educated me and enrichened my life. Thanks Hank and all the X Marks members!

I would still be wearing kilts even if I hadn't found Xmarks, but I certainly wouldn't have the confidence and "style" that I do now. 8-)

My biggest regret with this group is not having the time or finances to be able to get to a few of the gatherings. I've only been able to meet a couple of members in person so far. Some day, though. :smile:

My wife and I affectionatly refer to xmarks as my kilt wearers support group. It is so refreshing to know that I am not alone out there.
