Kilted at the Mall of America, Minnesota
Went out to the Mall yesterday. Wore my Black Stewart 8 yd. Shortly after I arrived, I had one gentleman ask me if I was a piper. He wanted to know where we were playing. I had to dissapoint him and tell him, that no, I did not play the pipes.
At one of the other stores, the clerk wanted to know where I was from. He said he was wondering because I looked Scottish.
I could see others, especially the ladies, look and smile, and now and then you could hear the start of a comment they were making to their friend.
And yes, I matched my hose to my shirt this time.

Sounds similar to my trip to Italy this year when I went through the San Lorenzo leather market in Florence in my UK Mocker...I got asked over and over where in Scotland I was from, if my family was from Scotland, if it was an Irish kilt (after I professed to being part Irish -- along with a mix of other nationalities), why an American would be wearing a kilt if he wasn't Scottish...they all liked it but they found it to be VERY confusing.

Speaking of malls, the first enclosed mall built in the US is going to be demolished next year. Valley Fair Mall in Appleton Wisconsin has been sold and the new owners determined the structure needs too much work to be cost effective to save. The theater addition and the former Kohls store addition will be saved, but the rest is coming down. Another bit of history gone, even if it is fairly recent history.

And here I thought the first one was the Harry Street Mall in Wichita, KS. I know it was there in the mid to late '50's
