What is the age of this castle???
I'd never seen or read about it yet.
The castle was constructed early 1370s, with the artillery fortifications built 1447. Sieged for 60 days by James II (who eventually bribed the guards to surrender!).
Following the final 13 week siege in 1640, Lord Maxwell received a letter from Charles I to surrender.
The laird of Balmaghie was immediately after the surrender ordered to dismantle the castle so that it could not be used again.
Ah, Threave castle was the castle of the Black Douglas.
