You have NO idea how bad it was growing up with that name. Nothing but painful memories there.
Being named Christopher I was labled with the nick name "Christy" for many years and I hated that name with a passion and was still being addressed by it well into my days in the Army by my oldest brother, only out of habit, but it finally was left by the wayside with the passing of time.

I had almost forgotten about it until my little niece started calling me "Tio Christy" and I have to admit that it was one of the most beautiful things that I have ever heard in my life and now that she's older and has forgotten it, I miss being called "Tio Christy".

    Chris.

My youngest sister has a man's name, Dale, for her middle name. It's kind of a tradition in my family now, as my aunt's middle name was Dale as well.

If I ever have a daughter I hope to name he Ophelia Dale, though that might take some convincing of the missus...

How could I possibly be offended by "Goddess" ? Which is, of course the shortening of my online name. Then again, I have gone through a lot of names in my life, and sometimes I get confused about what to respond to. Born Jennifer Star, I was called Jenny as a child. When we moved when I was 13, I made sure no one called me Jenny anymore (a jenny is a female donkey!). Then when I went to college, I decided to go by my middle name, since pretty much every female born in 1970 is named Jennifer. I have been Star for so long now, that I actually no longer respond to Jennifer (unless it's my mother's voice). My favorite name though is the one that starts with Doctor, since I earned that one!

Dale, like Devon and Morgan, is not a man's name, and at least it can't be shortened! Keep fighting for the name.

    Be well,

My family calls me Kris. It doesn't bother me because I'm obviously not a boy.

Try explaining to people that you are named after a river. (Actually I'm named after my grandfather. HE was named after the river.)

My first name is Charles but there are Charles' all over my family so most of us use the middle one. Oddly most of the middle names begin with the letter D. Douglas, DeWitt, David etc.

    Families can be odd.

I was Nicholas until I was born. I was a surprise, so they made my middle name Nicole.

I certainly wouldn't be offended by someone referring to me as Panache. As many here may note I also cycle through both James and Jamie.

I was Jamie in Elementary School till teasing made me abandon it (Curse you Lindsey Wagner!!!). I still remember telling my Mother I didn't want to be Jamie anymore. She told me that "Jamie was a good Scottish name".

I have been James through adulthood and Panache as of last year.

James is for everyday use and matters of serious occassion. James also is the one screws up (albeit Humorously such as "what in the world have you done now James?").

The resurrected Jamie is far more fun loving than James. Jamie goes to Scottish Country dancing. Jamie goes to the golf range. It's Jamie's Mustang convertible.

Panache is the fellow I wish I was all the time. He is never at a loss for words, never makes mistakes. He is charming, witty, and elegant.

But the three of us seem to all get along pretty well. Perhaps our lives would be lacking without the others. Maybe that's the case with everyone, they just don't have names for these different aspects of their personality.

    Cheers

    J.J. & P.
