    home remedies

Anybody got any weird and/or wonderful home remedies for a cold?
I've been getting rest, drinking fluids and the usual stuff, but what I want is the wacky stuff. You know, like burying a potato in the backyard at midnight to get rid of warts.

This is more of a "this helps" department, but it sounds kind of wacky. Eat 2 pickled jalapenos, whole, seeds and all. (Just pop them in your mouth, chew and swallow.) Chase with a whole 12 oz can of Mountain Dew. It sounds silly, but there is a basis for it working. The capsaicin in the peppers helps release endorphin to make you feel a bit better, while the vitamin c and citric acid helps fight infection. Warning attached to this method: if you are not accustomed to hot foods, be prepared to cuss, holler, sweat, and sit in a chair being dizzy for a few minutes.

One shot of whisky. Juice of one lemon. Tablespoon of honey. Add boiling water and stir. It's not a remedy, but I find that it sure helps me get over the cold. I hope you're feeling better soon, Cloves.

Actually, for colds and flu, jalapenos are not the best choice. You want an orange or yellow pepper, red will do in a pinch. Different chemicals, different effects, more C and zinc and other stuff.

And really... The chaser shouldn't be Dew. The phosphoric acid will work against the expectorant properties of the peppers, and as a double wammy, the high fructose corn suryp will only generate more snot and congestion.

Hot tea. Brewed from ginger, licorice root, green tea leaves, and kombucha.

Wasabi always perks me up when I have the sniffles.

    So does a good curry.

Gather three shots of good scotch, a pickle of your choice, eye of newt, wing of bat, and some aged calve's liver. Put everything thing but the whisky in a palstic bag, throw the bag out, and drink the whisky.

You'll feel better within 7-10 days.
