This is coming along reasonably well. I did something to my left wrist two weeks ago so I haven't taken the caber out the last two workouts, and I left the hammer at home for the last one. However, the wrist is much happier now, and if it doesn't pour down rain, I'll get out again this weekend and toss the wood. Last time I had it out (it's about 80 pounds) I could pick it every time, though I had problems getting both of my hands under the stick in the first hoist of the pick.

I'm doing 16 lb hammer throws at around 70-75 feet, which won't win anything, butis respectable..

I've started to spin for the 16 pound stone, though I'm standing up pretty straight for it. Those are out around 30-33 feet, but I can sense that they're getting better. That's good 'cause I need to see upper 30's to 40 feet to get "respectable".

Weight for distance is still my most problematic event. I get it "right" about one throw in five, and I'm only pushing the 28 pounder to there about 30 feet. I think I need some coaching on this, cause 29-30 feet just stinks for a guy my size..

28 pound over the bar; I'm probably clearing 14 feet.

I'm looking forward to trying all this with Tim C's 42 pound weight, soon.

Alan, let me know when you want to get together and I will come out to help you with your WFD. It's about timing and release trajectory. If I can heave that weight out there, you can definately do it.

How's the WOB coming? Have you started throwing the 42# up there or are you still feeling a bit odd about throwing a weight up over your head?

I'm reading this thread and thinking this sounds like fun. We have a Highland games festival an hour or so from me in Alma, Michigan. I'm also thinking if I take up another hobby, I'll be looking for a new wife...and house....and car....tools, bikes, books, fishing gear...boat...................

Maybe I'll go watch this year. Good place to wear my kilt and recruit new rugby players. ;)

Great thread guys, I'll be watching it now.

I've been busy and it's been raining, but we needto get another throwing day set up. I need to get my mitts on the 42 pounder and get a feel for that.

Time to look at the calendar.

Alan - I got a 42 lbs. Let me know when. Also, Chris from Devils Canyon wants to give it a go next time we throw.

    I'm definitely interested in learning.
Know any folks in the western part of WA?
I am out of shape though... this I freely admit.
I am hoping to shape up enough to compete in next years games though.
