Timeless Wit
This story is somewhat apocraphyl, but it's funny nonetheless and the characters were real.
In the late 800s, there was a Scot by the name of John Scottus in the court of Charles the Bald. The king was trying to needle Scottus, and asked him what separated a Scot and a sot.
John replied, "Only the dinner table."
