You don't like what they do to hardwood floors? Also it is rather hard to sneak up on anyone.
If you like them to look nice you can always bull the toe and heel. I have done this from time to time on my brown ones.

Thanks!
Thanks for all the recommendations! I now have a list of boots to check out, but I ended up not being able to pass up these this past weekend at the Washington, DC Green Festival (tm). The boots usually sell for $65, and were on a show-only special for $45. I liked the look as well as any others I'd seen, and the price was great, especially when items like this with high recycled content often sell at a premium just because they're recycled/hemp/etc.
Thanks again to all.

I have a pair of Gripfasts boots that I just love... and they work well for that industrial/punk look!

Yeah, but then that makes for a bad PLF, especially when you HAVE to like in pre-jump training.
Rigger here...and I hate those army jump boots. Regular issued were just fine; and now I find I wish I would have kept mine.

If you want the oakley boots and you are a federal employee, i.e. miltary, cop, fireman, and so on, you can get them at cost from

I agree with dpseadvr, Oakleys makes a great 6" boot called the Flak Six...They sell for approximately $140.00, but I've seen specials as low as $110.00...Go to Oakley.com for a closer look.

I've seen some pretty cool Harley Davidson boots...they'd be pretty neat with a kilt!

I'd go with military surplus boots (hard to find black anymore though, with the war in Iraq and the new tan issue), or some Timberlands.
The mil-specs are comfortable, durable, and with a good polish look nice. Mine went through 3 years of hunting/hiking and two-years of spelunking (as a job) before becoming ugly...they're still wearable though, thanks to duct-tape!
