North Carolina Newbie
...as opposed to North Carolinian Newbie. I'm a Scouser (from Liverpool, UK for those not in the know) in exile in the Tar Heel State and it's been 3 days since my last drinkkkkk... oops, wrong forum!
Seriously though, I used to spend many summers (and winters) in Scotland but it's oddly only since marrying a girl in North Carolina that I'm plucking up the courage to buy my first kilt. Thanks in no small part to this board and the fact that Jerry has been answering my emails almost within nanoseconds of me sending them, I'm probably going for the SWK Nightstalker (the 38" Black Shadow Heavyweight is out of stock ). Being a bit of a 'rocker', I want predominantly black rather than shopping elsewhere for my family - Murray of Atholl - tartan. While I'm waiting for the Black Shadow to rear its head again, I was wondering whether anyone has any good pics of the tartan in the Nightstalker at all? The one on the SWK site seems to have a purplish hue to it. Jerry has just assured me that it's black and grey - how pronounced is the tartan in that particular kilt?
I've only just joined this board so I'm still finding my way around for info on both local kilt nights here in NC and where I might find members offering kilts for sale (if there's any on here of course). In the meantime, wish me luck on my choice and my tentative steps wearing my first kilt in a land dominated by hunting & Nascar!
Billy
EDIT: Ok, ok, I found the 'For Sale' and the 'Kilt Night' threads. Damn you all for having so much to do on here!

A hearty welcome form the foothills of the Western part of the North
Carolina just south of Asheville. Their are several members through out
the state and we do have kilt nights from time to time.
Where are you living in the state?

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Cheers for the greeting I'm just outside of Winston-Salem, where I variously get told that I sound like I'm either from Scotland, Ireland, Australia or New York City (???). Only one person here has guessed 'Liverpool' and that was only because they loved The Beatles, lol. Strange that back home I didn't think I had an accent at all!
I'm sure I'd find the thought of wearing a kilt out far less daunting if I lived elsewhere in the State, but I'm still eagerly awaiting my first Kilt Night with baited breath!

Thanks Gents And David, I'm sure you won't need any explanation as to why a Scouser raised a smile at your surname!

Hello and from Boston, Massachusetts
My Avatar is in an SWK Semi-Trad Irish National Tartan. Jerry's service is GREAT. BTW my first kilt is a self made black denim. Great for chilly New England weather, 8 yards of 14 oz denim. In jones mode for an American Heritage Tartan from Rocky. Where you are new here, you will be surprised at the number of kilties on this side of the pond. Last summer I attended a conference in Portland, Oregon to find about a third of the men I met were kilted. Mostly tan self colour. Being kilted is addictive. I now am sewing my sixth kilt. Plus buying three.
Enjoy your first, get comfortable with it, then buy more kilts.
Welcome to ye Rabble
--- Steve
