A "traditional" view can be a funny thing in this case. Most 'official' clan or family tartans were the result of a brilliant Victorian marketing scheme. So, "traditional" can be difficult to define. As such, I think the advice so far is pretty good.

As for me, I prefer to wear something that I have some sort of tie to (blood, location or such) or a fashion tartan that I like the looks of.

You asked for views which are like opinions and you know what they say about opinions.
    But here goes anyway.

There are three hard and fast rules concerning the proper and authorized wear of The Tartan. I know this because I read it right here on this forum.

    1) Choose a Tartan you like.
    2) Know what Tartan you are wearing.
    3) Wear your chosen Tartan with respect.

With that said, may I interest you in a nice Pink Death Kilt? The only Tartan Authorized for wear while hunting the wily lawn flamingo.

    I wear the kilt because:

Sign me up. I'm stalking garden gnomes next year, and may design one for that.

No need to conceptualize. All things can be found on Xmarks, if you use the search feature.

    Behold Pink Death:

and to see it realized as a kilt made by our own W2F look at this thread.

Thanks for the opinions, everyone!! Just getting started, I've already ordered my first kilt in Buchanan, Modern. Family, all the way!! Next, I'll be looking for USN and USMC. As a retired Navy Corpsman, who ran with the 2d Marines......... I STILL love those guys!!!
I'm looking for a Buchanan hinting, as well, but they are next to impossible to find in the budget-variety. Maybe after I get rid of a couple of more kids, the budget aspect will improve!!!!
