Strange Question
This past Saturday I was at one of the chain book stores letting my oldest pick out his reward for the week. I was in my khaki AK looking at some of the off beat tattoo magazines, when one of the girls that worked there came up to me and asked "Um, this may sound strange but, do you have an accent?"
Now, I was preparing for "the" question, so I stammered for a second, and then told her that I did not have an accent (except a slight southern accent). She then had me go to her friend and talk to her to prove that I did not have an accent.
A very strange day at the bookstore.
Oh, I did get very nice compliments from them, and from another group of females as my son and I were walking back to meet up w/ my wife.

That's fun!
I remember once I was shopping for groceries in my black UK workman's when an older gentleman came up and said, "you don't see many Scots shopping for groceries in this town!"
So I not-too-slowly replied so he would hear I didn't have an accent, "No, that's true. I don't think I've ever seen any here either."
Convinced he was right, he continued, "So what part of Scotland are you from?"
Congrats on the compliments!

Speaking as a gal who gets weak in the knees when she hears an accent, they were probably hoping to hear you if you had one
I don't know what I'll do the day someone talks to me with a nice accent like that while wearing a kilt. *swoon*
Sounds like you had a nice day with some nice attention

I'm a bit of a voice actor, so when confronted with such questions, I've been known to speak with a Scottish accent. Then, when they ask me where I'm from, I drop it, and say, "Tucson." The funny looks I get are priceless.

IT was a lot of fun, and I'm not sure what they would have done if I did have an accent. Almost makes me wish I could fake accents to find out.

Being a born 'n bred Aussie, with an Australian accent, for some reason most Americans usually open with; "Gee an Irishman in a Kilt, you do look smart!".(??)
