Black handle safety razor

I just ordered this black handle safety razor and pack of blades from http://www.classicshaving.com/Home.html. I am tired of shelling out $8.00 or more for a pack of Gillette Mach3 razors that hardly last a week, and when I have to shave every morning and my head every three days, well that is quite a bit of shaving and razors thrown away. I figure that this initial investment was not too bad and if these razors were good enough for my grandfather then they should be fine for me. I guess my next investment will be a straight razor, but that would only be used on the weekends.

My father used them razors back when. I always managed to cut myself trying to reload them...or would get REALLY cheap and use them to long until the edge pited and I'd cut my face.

Glad there are folks still making them.

I remember my Dad using one of those. I've never tried shaving with a double edge myself, but those who like it seem to really like it.

I got annoyed with the whole changing cartridges thing myself too and made the switch to a straight.

My new razor and blades arrived today in a nondescript box, I was wondering what I had ordered, once opened I remembered that I had ordered a new shaving system, so, down to my man bathroom and a trial run on the five o’clock shadow. The only difference I can tell from this shaving system and that of the Mach 3 is that you have to run the razor over your face much slower, and the potential for nicks and cuts are much easier than with my old razor. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and I will only use my former razor when I am in a rush.

The key to keeping any blade sharp is keep it clean oiled and dry I know the paradox there but most blades need a wee bit of oil and there is a device that will keep your blades for a great while...I have one that I have been using for a month on my disposable and it is sharp as day 1 for $20 it was well worth they try

I shave with a DE (double edge) or "safety razor" and like it much better than the popular razors today. I would advise you to be extremely careful with the Feather razor blades. From the postings on the forum I frequent, shavemyface.com, they are wicked sharp. Most on the forums would recommend you start with a different blade and move up to the Feathers as you gain experience. I'd start with double edge blades you can buy at the local drug or grocery store. That's what I'm using currently.

Also, be aware that this can be highly addicting. You will get a much better shave my using a quality brush and shave cream than anything you can get out of a can.

I've used it for long years when I was a boy and it does its work really well. I used the rtazor that my grandfather gave me when I was a child. It must be almost 100 y.o.

Now we're used to shave fast paying really few attention to the shaving, while this type of razor oblige us to pay attention again in shaving, in the pressure of our hand and this is good (owing to my opinion) because our mind it is often too much used to run away, never being present at the present moment....
The razor it is not dangerous... we are!! LOL!!!

I second Kent on the warning about the Feathers. I like a sharp blade, but the Feathers are a bit OTT for my tastes.

The biggest habit you will need to break is trying to bear down on the razor, like you've done with the multi-blade cartridges so common today. Let the weight of the razor do all the work and focus on making multiple, stubble-reducing passes.
