I've Had To Buy A Suit ! !
Our work's Christmas night out this year is going to be in a night club. It pains me to say that I will not be wearing my kilt because I know the annoyance of people wanting to keep lifting it etc on the dance floor will spoil my evening.
Last year at the hotel is was about 3 times, and having worn one to a night club before I know I won't get peace. I've also had the sporran tugged at, and as people get drunker, the grip gets tighter. I don't want my stuff damaged. Anyone else share my view?

Sadly, venues/occasions must at times be considered for kiltfriendliness. It is good to protect stuff! but that being said- I wish you an enjoyable party-time.

I was never very fond of office parties, John, and I think, were I in your position, I'd make my apologies and not attend!! ![](http://www.cosgan.de/images/midi/frech/e025.gif)
Take care,
Ham.

Yeah, there seems to be some kind of popular notion that bad behavior is not only acceptable but mandatory. I guess that it makes life more like it's portrayed in the movies. Lots of suburban kids come into the city to play "Ferris Buehler's Day Off" all the time...except that it's not particularly funny, it's usually just rude. Ditto with enough of the drunk grown-ups (using the term very loosely). Sad...sorry that you've had so much trouble.

I would have to agree with you, you certainly do not need your kilt sporran or any other part of your kit damaged because of drunkards. That said I like Ham's idea.

Was a time when I encountered a lot of lifters (and wannabes). But the more I wore my kilt, the less interested they were. On rare occasions I've allowed the stalwarts to get away with it, only to humiliate them a moment later when I make sure they know what a bore they are. That said, who could blame you for being defensive?
Regards,
Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

I agree with Hamish, but sometimes the "party" is not voluntary. I remember an invitation I received, (as a very junior officer) after which was stated (verbally) "You will attend, and You will bring your wife!" I was single at the time, and said so, the reply was "Then bring something that looks like a wife.
